Walt Elias Disney was born December 5, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois. He was born into a lovely family which included his parents, Elias and Flora Call Disney along with siblings Herbert, Raymond, Roy and just two years after Walt was born Ruth Disney. The name Disney, originally d'isigny is a Norman French name. Walt grew up as a happy imaginative child who loved to imagine clouds were cute and loving animals. In 1927 Walt created his first character Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, but unfortunately Walt lost the rights to Oswald but that didn't stop him. Right after he created the loving, cute, very popular character...Mickey Mouse!! Soon after Mickey was created, he appeared in Walt's very first film Steam Boat Willie. In 1932 Disney recieved his first academy award for the creation of Mickey. In 1925 just before Oswald, Walt married his lovely wife Lillian Disney, who was actually the woman that convinced him to name him Mickey Mouse, who was originally suppose to be named Mortimer Mouse. Soon after Walt's academy award, Walt and Lillian tried to have their first child but unfortunatly they had a miscarriage. They tried again in 1933 and gave birth to their very first child Diane Marie Disney on December 18, 1933 and adopted their second child Sharon Mae Disney born December 31, 1936. In 1937-1941 Walt created his first coloured/talking animated movie Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The movie was a big hit for families everywhere. After having children Walt had dreams of creating a fun filled theme park for the whole family. His dream came true on July 18, 1955 when he officially opened Disneyland (California). The opening was a big hit and many people joined Walt on his big day! Although Disneyland was a big hit, Walt believed that he should make an even larger park so he opened Walt Disney World. The most popular theme park with four large parks (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Holllywood/MGM studios and Animal Kingdom) along with two gigantic water parks (Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon.) Unfortunately, Walt did not live to see all of the rides and parks go up because he died December 15, 1966. Walt Disney will always be in our hearts and because of him Disney will continue to go on forever!!
